A Look at the Grey’s Anatomy Season 3 DVD

Tuesday, August 14th, 2007

51kxoH1p23L__AA240_.jpgIt’s almost time for the 3rd Season DVD Release of Grey’s Anatomy and I’m ready! The release date is set for September 11, but you can pre-order it now. The best prices I have found online are FYE - $29.99 after a $10 rebate, Amazon.com - $38.99 and it’s $38.91 (plus $2.95 shipping) from Overstock.com. (Make sure to look for coupon codes from places like BargainHuntingMoms.com or HappyCodes.com to save even more!)

Here’s the Press Release from Buena Vista Home Entertainment:

Grey’s Anatomy’s Ellen Pompeo (Meredith Grey), Patrick Dempsey (Derek Shepherd), Katherine Heigl (Izzie Stevens), Sandra Oh (Cristina Yang), T.R. Knight (George O’Malley) and Isaiah Washington (Preston Burke) work overtime to keep the romance, drama and, of course, the patients, alive at Seattle Grace Hospital.

Critical conditions are plentiful in the not-to-be-missed Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Third Season - Seriously Extended. They are doctors, lovers and friends. Join the staff of Seattle Grace Hospital as they learn there are no easy cures for life’s challenges and that each choice comes in shades of grey.

Grey’s Anatomy: The Complete Third Season - Seriously Extended includes 25 one-hour episodes on 7-disc DVD plus hours of exclusive bonus features including four extended episodes exclusive to the DVD and “Making Rounds with Patrick Dempsey”, in which viewers join Dempsey on the race track. Cast and crew members share their favorite scenes in “Good Medicine” and “Prescription for Success” introduces how a new character is created and integrated into the show.

Smurfs coming to DVD in December

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

smurfs_tn.jpgIt was bound to happen sooner or later. Those little blue annoyances known as the ‘Smurfs’ are coming to DVD…just in time for Christmas. I’m not a fan, but I know there are lots of Smurf lovers out there. I’m not saying I didn’t watch the show when I was a kid, but I didn’t have cable so my choices were limited. I couldn’t stand Jokey Smurf and Smurfette’s voice grated on my nerves. Even as a young kid, I thought the show was inane and much preferred a good episode of Scooby-Doo. But I digress… (more…)

Do Downloads promote DVD Sales?

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

The studios think so.

Many of last season’s shows have been available as downloads or viewable online for months now but that doesn’t seem to be hurting DVD sales. In fact, some studio execs believe it actually helps sell DVDs. They say downloads are a great way to get a viewer hooked on a show.

Warner Home Video consumer research has found, however, that consumers don’t view downloads as a replacement to DVDs. Warner found that more than half of downloaders say they plan to buy the DVD of the show they downloaded.

“Our research tends to indicate a different purchase motivator for TV on DVD vs. downloading,” said Jeff Brown, Warner senior VP and general manager of TV, family, animation and franchise. “Downloading tends to represent a benefit of immediacy, of catching up on an episode one missed.”

Fun Friday: Full House

Friday, August 10th, 2007

Full House. It’s sappy. It’s sweet. It’s funny. It’ll teach you some life lessons. Go ahead, admit it. It’s your guilty pleasure. When you hear that theme song and see Mary Kate (or is it Ashley?) smiling at you, you MUST sit down and watch. Maybe you’re a Full House junkie and can tell the season by Uncle Jesse’s hairdo or maybe you’re just a casual watcher. It’s hard to resist all the cuteness of this show. My kids love it today just as much as I did “back in the day”.

Now you can own season 7 for yourself and see all the touching moments like this one (when Papouli died - yes I know way too much about this show):

The zaniness of the Tanner household returns to delight viewers again when Warner Home Video releases the seventh season of the top-selling classic Full House on DVD August 7, 2007. Full House: The Complete Seventh Season will include 24 episodes from the show’s seventh season in a four-disc set, and will retail for $29.98 SRP.

Who Doesn’t Love the Super Friends?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007

61JrPikQr0L__AA240_.jpgNew on DVD this week is the Super Friends: Legendary Super Powers Show from the mid-80’s. I must admit I am a total Superman freak and the Superfriends and Justice League were some of my favorite cartoons growing up.

Joining Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and your usual Justice League friends in this incarnation of the show is Firestorm the Nuclear Man. The major villain in this series is Darkseid.

The DVD includes all 16 episodes, each about 10 minutes long.  Special features include ”Evolution: New Heroes, Viler Villains, and Ethnic Additions”, a featurette about the impact of the Super Friends on cultural diversity in animation; “The Super Powers Collection”, a featurette about the Super Friends and the toy industry; and commentary on several episodes.

If you grew up in the 80’s and loved the Super Friends, this is a must-have. It may not be state-of-the-art animation like you see today, but it is great ‘good vs. evil’ superhero fun.

Remembering John Ritter’s 8 Simple Rules

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

51zgitTtIlL__AA240_.jpgJohn Ritter. Just saying his name makes me a little sad.

I was thrilled when he came back to TV with 8 Simple Rules… in 2002. That year, my best friend was going through a divorce and having a tough time. She and her daughter would come over every week and watch the show with us. We would cook tacos or some other “health food” and sit around the TV to watch. We called it “family night.” Great comedy and touching family moments were plentiful during that first season of 8 Simple Rules…. (more…)
