TV on DVD Buzz

Here is this week’s edition for TV on DVD Releases in the drama category.

90210: The Complete First Season - This release is of the first season of the new 90210 spin-off of the original series, Beverly Hills, 90210. This releases is a six disc set. This season has 24 episodes. I imagine this release will have some special features, but I could not find any info on any specific special features or even if it has special features.

Adam 12: Season Three - This release is a four disc set of Adam 12, which is a spin-off of Dragnet. It contains the 26 episodes in the show’s third season.

Front Page Detective - This release is a one disc set. It contains the three episodes of Front Page Detective, which aired in 1951-1952 and is labeled as a Lost TV Classic.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the double sided 3 disc Murder, She Wrote Season 1 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of Side A of Disc 3.

“Armed Response” - In the beginning of an episode Jessica is picked up at the airport in Texas by a lawyer and it becomes apparent she is to testify for another writer. Kids cause her to fall and hurt her foot at the airport and the lawyer wants to sue, but she thinks it was entirely just an accident. Jessica ends up staying at the hospital overnight despite the minor injury. In the evening while getting some change to use the vending machine she witnesses two doctors having a heated argument. That night a doctor turns up murdered at his house. A woman (Jenny) is taken in for questioning and Jessica believes she is innocent and she asks her lawyer to help the girl out. Jessica works with the detective on the case to see how the timing of the death proves it was not Jenny. Jenny then ends up being framed with the murder weapon found in her possession. Jessica discovers that the argument she overheard was a taped one and those two doctors were actually involved in the murder of the other doctor.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the double sided 3 disc Murder, She Wrote Season 1 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of Side A of Disc 3.

“Tough Guys Don’t Die” - A detective is found dead shortly after talking to Jessica on the phone about an old case. Another detective, Harry McGraw, is found snooping around Jessica’s. Jessica believes the case she had the detective look into might have gotten him killed and Jessica wants to find out what the lead was. The case Jessica is looking into is about a murder trial about a physician getting off on a murder charge. It turns out that a judge knows about the real murderer in the case he originally was a defense lawyer for the physician. The real murderer was the judge’s friend that saved the judge during when they served together during war. Now that they know the the result of that case Jessica begins to look into the case of who killed the detective. Jessica discovers it is another detective that did it with the main evidence being a key chain sound on a tape the detective was making when he died.

“Broadway Malady” - Jessica goes to New York for a meeting with her publisher. Grady, her nephew, is working as an accountant for a Broadway production and wants her to come visit the set during rehearsals. In New York Grady takes Jessica to the female star’s house for a dinner get together. The co-star (the star’s daughter) is shot in an apparent mugging and her brother with her shoots and kills the bum that tried to mug them. The woman ends up in critical condition at the hospital. The situation seems fishy to Jessica and she thinks it was not a mugging, but a murder attempt from the start made to look like a mugging. Jessica tracks down a man that witnessed the mugging and noticed it was an amateur mugging. Jessica ends up recognizing the mugger in an old movie. The screenwriter quickly brings in his choice to take the place of the woman still in the hospital. The mother/star begins to suspect that the writer has been trying to replace her daughter since the beginning. Jessica begins to suspect that the mother is in danger and finds her passed out from gas poisoning. In the hospital now the mother is in critical condition while the daughter is recovering. She later dies and Jessica goes back to the house with the son. Jessica realizes he killed his mother and tried to kill his sister to inherit all the money, but after she survived he settled for getting half by still going through with the plan to kill his mother. After he confesses his mother comes in the room and reveals she survived and that it was a set up to get him to confess because she did not believe it was him at first.

“We’re Off to Kill the Wizard” - Jessica is invited to the opening of a new Horatio’s House of Horrors theme park. Horatio wants to do a theme park based on her murder mysteries, but she does not agree to it mainly because he caters to children. Later that day a shot is heard in Horatio’s office and it is locked from the inside when security arrives. He is found dead and it is assumed to be suicide at first, but the police discover he was killed by a hit to the head and the gun shot wound came after wards. When Jessica goes to the airport to go to Kansas City for the day for some publicity stop, she is sort of kidnapped/forced to go to a private jet. There she meets Horatio’s wife. It turns out that she wants Jessica to help prove it was a murder and not suicide, so the wife can claim the insurance policy. Jessica talks to the secretary and she had a fihgt over a blackmailing that leads her to think there are blackmail files hidden in his office. They find the hidden spot in his desk, but the files are gone. Horatio’s PI is found dead possibly jumping to his death or being pushed to his death (this is obvious to the viewer as we see it happen). She finds out that it is a man that worked for Horatio and did not get the VP position he was promised and the illusion of him not being in the room when he actually was.

“Hooray for Homicide” - Jessica receives a call from a friend to tell her about them talking about her movie on television. She turns it on and finds a movie producer talking about turning her book into a movie, but describing the movie as very different than the book’s plot. She ends up going to Hollywood/LA to confront the producer to stop debasing her novel. A writer complains to the director for cutting any lines that require any acting so the director’s girl can perform the part with her lack of acting skill. It turns out the directory only bought it for the title and not to actually do the movie based on her book directly. She later finds she out she did sign away her right to meddle with the movie and she goes back to try and find him to apologize for interfering. She finds him dead in the graveyard set. Security thinks Jessica is the killer. The police do not seem to suspect her at all when they arrive, though. Jessica goes to see the producer’s girlfriend at his beach house to tell her that he was murdered, but first she has to sober the girl up. The police officer comes to see Jessica because the Captain thinks Jessica had the motive and opportunity to kill the producer, but the officer does not think she did it, so she just must remain in town. The police officer sort of arrests her after her words are turned against her. She is not actually booked and the police officer gives her a chance to not only clear her name, but find the actual killer. Jessica finds out about a drum major costume being taken from the costume was last borrowed by the girlfriend of the dead producer. When she goes to the girls trailer she finds the director hiding in there and the police end up finding the missing button in his pocket. He is arrested as the murderer. Jessica realizes he is also wrongly accused, though. She realizes the girlfriend killed the producer because she was having an affair with the co-star and the producer wanted to replace him with another actor.

“The Murder of Sherlock Holmes - Pilot” - Yes, one of the minority of shows that has given there pilot show an actual title and not just called it pilot. The episode starts with a woman coming downstairs to find the doors open and then finds a man with an ax in a closet. Lights come on and it is revealed to be a rehearsal for a play. Jessica Fletcher is introduced as being there as part of the PTA in charge of refreshments. They are hurried out by the director, who is stunned that Jessica already figured out who the murderer was. Jessica Fletcher’s nephew Grady tells her about finding her manuscript for her book and found a publisher that wants to publish her book. It then skips to a scene of it being a bestseller and being booked to be on a television show. Before the two friends from the PTA help her get a makeover. Grady meets Jessica at the train station in New York. The next couple scenes are promoting the book tasks such as television interviews, book signings, and radio interviews. She is overwhelmed by New York City and is about to leave to go back to Cabot Cove, but her publisher convinces her to come stay the weekend at his mansion with some real people. It turns out the party is a costume party of favorite literary characters. At the party Grady finds a Private Investigator going through his room. The next morning a body dressed as Sherlock Holmes is found in the pool having been killed with a gun shot wound to the face. Jessica looks around the property looking for clues and the Chief Detective ends up confiding in her and asking for her help. Jessica notices the shoes the body was wearing was probably the private detective and not the Captain Caleb they originally thought it was. Jessica thinks the killer might have been trying to kill the private investigator or the Captain depending on who they thought the person was. Again Jessica is about to leave to go home, but then she learns that Grady was arrested as a suspect in the murder of the PI. It seems Grady is also accused of being involved in stealing money from the company he works for, which the PI was looking in to and why it seems he had a motive to murder the PI. Jessica’s published bails out Grady. Jessica goes to a harbor to see the Captain. Grady and Jessica go to Grady’s office at night to try to figure out who is really the one stealing money from the company. This leads her to a co-worker named, Ashley, and a man that suddenly has come into money to put on a new musical. They admit to the money fraud, but not murder. The Captain’s body is found on his sailboat, which leads to them realizing he was the original intended victim. Yet again about to leave for Cabot Cove, but Jessica leaves the train and decides to go to New Holvang (where the PI was murdered) instead after getting some sort of clue after reading something in a newspaper. The house is deserted at first, but then the publisher shows up. She realizes that the light in the backyard was enough to have known that they were really killing the PI. She realizes that he purposely killed the PI, who was blackmailing the publisher because he figured out that he was an escape convict, although he was a scapegoat for the crime. He turns himself in and it is hard on Jessica because she had fallen in love with him. Grady takes Jessica to the train station and she finally does actually leave on the train, although it ends with her being intrigued about a case the New York Police want her help with and possibly considering helping as the train pulls away with her still in the entryway to the train car.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the six disc Bones Season 2 set. This is the wrap up of the sixth and final disc.

“Stargazer in a Puddle” - A child is found underwater in a shopping cart when it is drained to find a knife thrown in the water. Bones’ father comes to see Bones in her office and Booth is there, so he arrests him. Nothing is found on her father that identifies him as his alias that committed the crimes, so Booth has to let him free. The more they look at the body they decide it is not a child, but an older woman. Angela asks Bones to be her bridesmaid. Bones’ father gives her a ring that was her grandmother’s. The body was of a twenty two year old that was developmentally delayed physically and mentally. Her mother thinks it was a child care provider that she suspected of molesting her, but the man says he only washed shampoo out of the girl’s eyes and put a towel on her after a bath. Booth gets a warrant to take a DNA sample from Bones’ father. Bones’ father reveals he has a video message from her mother. Zack refuses to be Hodgins’ best man because he has been asked by letter from the president to serve as a forensic scientist in Iraq. Hodgins then ask Booth to be the best man. The girl’s mother has AIDS and the daughter is found to have been poisoned by AIDS medication. Booth could just arrest or shoot Bones’ father, but they end up having a fist fight instead and arresting him even though her father could have escaped it he had wanted to. Bones watches the movie made for her by her mother in 1993 (two years after her disappearance, not longer before she died) on Bones’ 16th birthday. A member of the state department stops Angela and Hodgins from getting married because she apparently did not realized she was officially married in Fiji years ago when she jumped over a broomstick with a man or something like that.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the six disc Bones Season 2 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of the fifth disc.

“The Priest in the Churchyard” - A water main breaks at a church graveyard causing the caskets to come out of the ground. Bones finds a skull that was buried no more than 5 years ago and looks like foul play, especially since the last official burial in the graveyard was more than fifty years ago. Hodgins discovered that the water main was broken by a shovel. Booth and Bones interview the priests at the church. One is an old priest that has been there for decades and the other is a newer priest that the old one calls a hippie. Booth wants Bones to go see the shrink, Gordon, with him. Hodgins asks Angela to move in with him, but she brushes the question off. Cam informs them that they have to get shots because of a fungus found in the graveyard dirt that causes symptoms such as nausea. Booth and Bones meet with Gordon at the diner. Booth and Angela attend Sunday mass with a sketch and the body is identified as the priest that served the parish before the new guy, which everyone thought just disappeared with a note saying he was leaving the priesthood. They believe the priest was killed because he caught a grave robber. The fungus disease is rare enough that they tracked down one of the parishioners that was treated for it around the time the priest was killed. Hodgins and Angela have sex in a replica of Cleopatra’s bed. Many think the dead priest molested one of the altar boy’s, but the altar boy says the priest never touched him. The older priest also suspected the priest was molesting the altar boy. The murder weapon is found on the altar of the church, but it is Napoleanic and suspected to have originally been buried in the graveyard with a 1800s bishop. The dead priest was poisoned before being hit with the chalice. They think the current young priest is being poisoned as well. They suspect the older priest, but it turns out to be the assistant that the older priest raised since she was 12. She thought she was protecting the children from the two priests molesting them, but neither ever did and the older priest had tension with them only because of his pride and them being sent to replace him.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the six disc Bones Season 2 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of the fourth disc.

“The Girl in the Gator” - Booth gets annoyed at the music coming from an ice cream truck while he is on his cell phone and shoots the clown on the top of the truck. Bones has to go to Florida without Booth to work on a case because he cannot get his gun back until he meets with a shrink. The body is found inside an alligator. The body is of a missing female college student. Booth goes to meet with the shrink and ends up helping build a barbecue area. The victim was involved in a girls gone wild type filming thing. The filming people give them a lead of a bouncer. The girl was last seen when the man from the show supposedly dropped her off in the middle of the alligator alley area. It becomes a more suspect story when they find the man from the show murdered. Booth is upset up the death of Epps because he thinks it counts as a kill and it would be the 50th kill (counting his time as a sniper and an FBI agent, I assume). Once he tells the shrink about this the shrink, Gordon, finally signs the form for him to go back to normal duty. Bones begins a relationship with FBI Agent Sully, who took Booth’s place during this episode.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the six disc Bones Season 2 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of the third disc.

“Aliens in a Spaceship” - Bones wakes up in her car not knowing where she is or what happened. She opens the window and finds she is buried underground and Hodgins is hurt in the back seat. She says the gravedigger must have gotten them. It then flashes back to 48 hours earlier with Bones and Booth finding two teenage boys in a tank that was buried underground. The twins were buried by the gravedigger kidnapper and the ransom was not paid. The four that had their ransom paid survived and instructions were given to dig them up. The kidnapper took all the victims from underground garages. The gravedigger meant to only kidnap one kid, but ended up with two when the twin interrupted the kidnapping. With two in the container the they died in 12 hours and even if the ransom had been paid they would have been dead before they got them. Then there is a quick scene of Bones being stunned in the parking garage and Hodgins seeing her and getting hit by a car, which sounds like what might have happened in the twins kidnapping case. Booth gets the ransom message from the gravedigger asking for $8 million, which is related to Hodgins being from a very wealthy family. Bones cuts into Hodgins leg to release pressure and minimize the pain. Hodgins tells Bones that he is very wealthy, as he is looking at the soil they are buried while Bones gets ready to hot wire the cell phone and send a quick message to Booth. Hodgins figures out how to make a carbon dioxide scrubber to give them more time. Booth gets annoyed at the others in the lab who are not able to figure out what the text message code about the dirt means right away. Zack finally figures out that the numbers mean elements on the periodic table. Booth and the FBI are above ground looking for where they are buried while Bones and Hodgins use the air bag to cause an explosion that creates a small explosion on the surface that Booth sees. Booth starts digging and pulls Bones out. The others then come and help and pull Hodgins out. Hodgins is afraid to sleep, but Angela tells him to come home with her so he knows when he opens his eyes he will see her.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the six disc Bones Season 2 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of the second disc.

“The Truth in the Lye” - This episode begins with Booth having an affair with his ex (i.e. the mother of his child). A body is found in a sludgy state in a bathtub in housing being built. The man has brittle bone disease and they track down who it is by looking at the family of children known to have the disease. Booth finds one family with a daughter missing a husband and Bones finds a family with a son missing a husband. When the two compare the family photos it turns out to be the same man leading two separate lives. It turns out the two women met each other at a special needs playground about a week ago. They followed him and found that he made another woman pregnant. The three admit to going to confront him and finding him dead with a gun in his mouth and that they put him in the tub. This leads them to the contractor of the house the man was found in killing him by accident when a money dispute got rough.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the six disc Bones Season 2 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Saturday. This is the wrap up of the first disc.

“The Titan on the Tracks” - At a scene of a train accident Bones learns that she now has a boss named Camille, who became head of the forensic department at the Jeffersonian while Bones was on vacation with her brother. The body in the car on the tracks that caused the train accident ends up being an old famous basketball player and a Senator was killed aboard the train. The basketball was dead for hours before the train struck the car. The bones show that body they think is the basketball player was a drug user. The man charged with murdering Bones’ mother ends up being killed in prison. The holographic image created using the skull in the car turns out to not be the basketball player. The basketball player is found having been beaten and thrown from a fast moving car and now in a coma not expected to ever be responsive again. The man that killed Bones mother’s believed killer mentions her dad by name when Booth and Bones go to talk to him making them suspect her dad ordered the hit. They find out that the basketball player was in on faking his suicide, but then his partner in shorting the company stock might have gotten greedy and caused the basketball player to end up in the condition he is in. Booth makes Bones go to the cemetery to visit her mother’s grave and convinces her to talk as if addressing her mother. On the grave she ends up finding a dolphin that signifies her father has visited the grave.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the four double sided disc Bones Season 1 set. This is the wrap up of Side B of the fourth disc.

“The Soldier on the Grave” - A burned body is found on a gravestone in Arlington National Cemetery. At first it seems it is a war protester suicide, but the initial examination of the body proves that the man was a soldier and murdered before burned. The man was one of those saved by the person who was buried at the gravestone he was found at. As they look into who murdered the man Bones finds the war hero soldier’s autopsy was very incomplete and has the body exhumed. They discover he was killed by friendly fire. They begin to suspect the lawyer national guard soldier, but when they go to confront him again they find him having hung himself with a note saying he killed the man in friendly fire. However, he could not have murdered the burned man to cover up the truth, as he was out of town when that happened. The cover up of the incident goes farther with the soldier that died having killed a family of innocents in the incident that ended with him killed by friendly fire. One of the others in the unit killed and burned the man to keep him from telling the truth about the incident. In the end Booth opens up to Bones and tells her about being an army ranger and taking out a man at his son’s birthday party.

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the four double sided disc Bones Season 1 set. I will be posting about one side of a disc each day until next Monday. This is the wrap up of Side A of the fourth disc.

“The Man in the Morgue” - Bones is in New Orleans helping identify bodies that died in Hurricane Katrina or unearthed from graves. Suddenly it cuts to a scene of Bones being bloody in a bathroom and receiving a call about it being Thursday, but she cannot recollect Wednesday ever happening. Booth arrives shortly after. Back at the lab there are x-rays of a murdered John Doe. Bones learns she had dinner with an orderly that practices voodoo the night (Tuesday) she got injured. They find a medical examiner Bones had been working with dead in his house and she remembers that she was there that night and got away hence her injuries. The local detective thinks Bones did it and Booth helps hide the fact that Bones was even at the scene by picking up her earring that she finds. The John Doe remains and the related file have disappeared. The detective comes to arrest Bones and Booth tries to prevent it, but she willingly allows the detective to arrest her. John Doe is found along with a new dead body that leads them to suspect the voodoo shop owner’s daughter. When they go there they find her on a spike in the wall. Bones suggests that the girl was pushed on the spike and they then suspect her father.
