iCarly Season 1 Volume 2 Preview Review and Contest

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

iCarly Season 1 Volume 2iCarly Season 1 Volume 2 contains the second half of season 1 of iCarly. I do not normally like shows being released in parts, but two volumes of two discs each are not too bad. It is at least way better than the shows that only release three or four episode volumes at a time. Plus, this is a funny show and both discs of the release have special features.

iCarly is a Nickelodeon live action show that mostly appeals to tweens and teens. It is full of comedy, which includes the iCarly webcast that Carly and her two friends produce as well as in their life situations with a lot of the crazy accident stuff happening with Carly’s older brother Spencer. This part of season 1 include them dealing with an annoying number 1 fan of the show, Spencer receiving criticism for his art from his hero, the show promoting shoes that turn out to be horrible, and two detectives using the iCarly loft for a stakeout.

Overall this release is pretty good with 12 episodes of the show, which includes “iCarly Saves TV” as an extended version. Sure the show can for the most part still regularly be caught on television, but fans of the show will not feel too cheated by purchasing this volume due to the special features. This includes Behind the Scenes Extras on Disc 1, Behind the Slime with the Cast of iCarly on Disc 2, and the “Pilot” episode of True Jackson, VP on Disc 2.

iCarly Season 1 Volume 2 is being released this Tuesday, April 21, 2009. It is available on Amazon here currently for $18.99.

Comment on this post with your favorite iCarly scene/episode. It does not have to be from the second half of Season 1. Each eligible comment (you can have multiple favorites) gets you an entry in the contest to win a copy of iCarly Season 1 Volume 2. I will be drawing for the winner on May 1, 2009, with comments made before April 30, 2009 at midnight counting.

Commander in Chief Inaugural Edition Part 2 Disc 3 Wrap Up

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the two part Season 1/Inaugural Edition of the Commander in Chief series, which ended up canceled after the first season. Today’s wrap up is of Part 2 Disc 3. It might seem odd, but really the first disc in part 2 is labeled disc 3, as it basically is disc 3 of season 1 and it actually concludes a two part episode arc that had the first part on Part 1 Disc 2.

Commander in Chief Inaugural Edition Part 1

“No Nukes is Good Nukes” - The North Koreans are preparing to fight war, as they say that the submarine being in North Korean waters was a purposeful act of war. They call in a professor that is an expert on the North Koreans. Mrs. Templeton goes to Templeton’s chief of staff, Jane, and tries to convince her to come back, as Templeton is not good at apologizing, but really wants her working for him again. Templeton and the President try to get the Chinese to let them use their underwater rescue system. They end up negotiating to use it covertly as if it was an entirely American operation. The Koreans hit a plane and there is pressure to counterstrike. There is some talk of having the submarine blow itself up, but neither the President and Templeton agree to that, which leads to a rare time the two of them support the same idea and defend it together against the others who think they submarine should be destroyed and rescue efforts of minimal chance abandoned. Jane ends up going to Templeton and apologizes for betraying him and he gladly welcomes her back. The President tells North Korea that if the Koreans attack the rescue vessels they will retaliate with the full force of the United States military, but if they do not they will give them $500 million for “humanitarian aid” with no strings attached. As Templeton, the President, and the First Gentleman wait to see what happens they say a prayer. The North Koreans want her to apologize for the sub being in their waters and she agrees to do so if the crew is safely rescued without being fired on by the Koreans. In the end the rescue is peacefully played out and she does apologize. Templeton begins to realize that she is good for the country and that she will be hard to beat in the election while the President tells her close staff that she really wants to run for President.

In Theater Clip of the Week: Horton Hears a Who!

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Horton hears a who!Horton Hears a Who! comes out in theater today! This is definitely one I want to see, but it won’t be happening this week, but I’d love to hear your take on it.

Horton Hears a Who! is from the old story from Dr.Seuss, Horton the elephant finds a a small flower with a speck of dust on it. Luckily for the people of Whoville he doesn’t just blow it off, instead of just being a speck of dust it is an entire community of little people living on it. Horton develops a friendship with the Who people and realizes he must keep the flower safe in order to save them.

Jim Carrey plays the voice of Horton.

“There is a man that has 96 daughters and 1 son and all share a bathroom. EEEKkkk!”

Seinfeld_Complete_Int.jpg

OK, I bet you thought Fun Friday would feature Twin Peaks didn’t you? Well I fooled you. Instead I am featuring Seinfeld: The Complete Series which releases next Tuesday, November 6.

Fans everywhere are buzzing about this set.  The show, billed as the “show about nothing”, ran on NBC from July 5, 1989 to May 14, 1998 as part of the heralded “Must See TV” lineup. It’s catchphrases became part of pop culture and even now, nearly 10 years later, you will still hear people talk about the “soup nazi” or being “master of their domain.”

Seinfeld: The Complete Series set is packaged in a beautiful collectors case and includes all 180 episodes on 32 (or some sources say 33) DVDs. Special features include:

  • More than 104 hours of amazing extras
  • The Official Coffee Table Book: a 226-page bound anthology filled with photos, quotes, and trivia from every episode
  • Bonus disc featuring the reunion of the cast plus Larry David on the ninth anniversary of the series finale
  • Documentaries for all nine seasons
  • Inside looks
  • Not That There’s Anything Wrong With That (bloopers)
  • In the vault (deleted scenes)
  • Yada Yada Yada (commentaries)
  • “Sein-Imation”
  • Notes about nothing

Here’s a look at one of the hilarious blooper scenes featuring Elaine (Julia Louis-Dreyfus), George (Jason Alexander) and George’s dad, Frank (Jerry Stiller):

This set has a suggested retail price of about $280 but it is available for pre-order at Amazon right now for only $212.99.

A look at Desperate Housewives Season 3

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

51Yb_iLAyIL__AA240_.jpgDesperate Housewives: The Complete Third Season, The Dirty Laundry Edition releases next Tuesday, September 4. It includes all 23 one-hour episodes on six-discs. Special features include:

BONUS FEATURES:
• “Here Comes the Bride”
A behind-the-scenes look at the season three finale
• “Amas de Casa Desesperadas”
Meet the lovely Latinas of Wisteria Lane
• “Cherry Picked”
Creator Marc Cherry’s favorite scenes
• Deleted Scenes
• Bloopers/Outtakes
• Spanish Audio Track

This show came on strong in the first season, but got a little off track in season 2. I quit watching after the disappointment of season 2, but as I understand it, season 3 saw the show get back to the humor and great stories that we saw when it was brand new. I’ll be renting this one to catch up for season 4. Let’s hope it’s a good one!

Smurfs coming to DVD in December

Saturday, August 11th, 2007

smurfs_tn.jpgIt was bound to happen sooner or later. Those little blue annoyances known as the ‘Smurfs’ are coming to DVD…just in time for Christmas. I’m not a fan, but I know there are lots of Smurf lovers out there. I’m not saying I didn’t watch the show when I was a kid, but I didn’t have cable so my choices were limited. I couldn’t stand Jokey Smurf and Smurfette’s voice grated on my nerves. Even as a young kid, I thought the show was inane and much preferred a good episode of Scooby-Doo. But I digress… (more…)

Remembering John Ritter’s 8 Simple Rules

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

51zgitTtIlL__AA240_.jpgJohn Ritter. Just saying his name makes me a little sad.

I was thrilled when he came back to TV with 8 Simple Rules… in 2002. That year, my best friend was going through a divorce and having a tough time. She and her daughter would come over every week and watch the show with us. We would cook tacos or some other “health food” and sit around the TV to watch. We called it “family night.” Great comedy and touching family moments were plentiful during that first season of 8 Simple Rules…. (more…)
