Remembering John Ritter’s 8 Simple Rules

by

51zgitTtIlL__AA240_.jpgJohn Ritter. Just saying his name makes me a little sad.

I was thrilled when he came back to TV with 8 Simple Rules… in 2002. That year, my best friend was going through a divorce and having a tough time. She and her daughter would come over every week and watch the show with us. We would cook tacos or some other “health food” and sit around the TV to watch. We called it “family night.” Great comedy and touching family moments were plentiful during that first season of 8 Simple Rules….

Maybe the show seems so good to me because of the special times I shared with my friend. Maybe it’s dear to me because it’s the last thing I saw John Ritter in. After all, his physical comedy, timing and delivery are unmatched and his tragic death is so sad. Maybe it’s just a great family show. At any rate, I’m thrilled that it’s now coming to DVD.

The DVD for the Complete First Season of 8 Simple Rules… releases on August 7 and will include all 28 episodes on 3 DVDs. Guest stars on the series include Cybill Shepherd, Jason Priestley and Terry Bradshaw. Also included is a hilarious bonus reel and other special features.

So grab this set and make some tacos and sit down for your own family night. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.

I’ve never watched 8 simple rules but I do love John Ritter and still watch him on 3’s company through cable channels. Your story of watching this is touching and makes me want to have a family night like you’ve described. I may have to check out this show. It would be nice to have my kids see what good clean comedy is all about.
