SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants Coming to DVD on July 21, 2009
The latest Spongebob Squarepants TV on DVD is coming on July 21, 2009. The newest DVD release of the show is being called SpongeBob SquarePants: To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants. This release is just one disc with a run time of 88 minutes. Not much content for a television show release, but normal for kids show releases. It would be nice if they just released kids shows in seasons, but that just is not the norm. It has 8 episodes of the show on it, but remember this show is done with two stories per episode that airs on television and technically there are two episodes per half hour time slot at least in most cases. Thus this is really only like watching four episodes on television, which is the true norm for kids TV on DVD releases. The episodes included are “To SquarePants or Not to SquarePants,” “Squid’s Visit,” “The Splinter,” “Slide Whistle Stooges,” “Boating Buddies,” “The Krabby Kronicle,” “The Slumber Party,” and “Grooming Gary.”
I am not into this show much, but I know it seems to be quite popular. The DVD releases from Nickelodeon tend not to have that much special content on it besides previews for their other DVDs and such. This release is kind of the same in that respect, however, the special features it does have sound unique. Most of the time I notice kids show releases just have music videos as the special feature or if lucky a quick DVD game. This one, though, has an Animation Art Gallery. I have seen this with some DVDs, but it does not seem to happen often with kids releases. The Animation Art Gallery has storyboard panels and character art.
