The Closer Season 1 Disc 2 Wrap Up

by

This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the four disc The Closer Season 1 set. I will post a wrap up of one disc per day finishing the set on Thursday. Today’s wrap up is of Disc 2.

The Closer Season 1

“Show Yourself” - This episode begins kind of confusingly in my opinion with it seemingly vague that there was a triple murder scene and it becoming a priority murder squad case. As they are releasing the scene Brenda approaches a suspicious man that turns out to be an ex-Marine that things his estranged son was the sniper and was involved in other shootings. Brenda struggles on what to tell the media, as they think it is gang violence and she lets them continue to think that rather than starting more hysteria by saying there is a sniper and making a D.C. repeat. Brenda soon learns that sniper is killing the gang members because on of the gang members killed his wife and the LAPD never solved the case. She ends up working with the father because he believes the only way to find and capture his son alive is for him to be there when it happens. Soon, though, it makes it seem like the father may have informed his son about who were gang members or was the one to kill the gang members. She ends up involving Fritz in this case by having him follow the father instead of going to dinner together as originally planned. This episode also ends kind of confusingly with it being unclear to me if the sniper killed himself or was hit by his father as a sniper.

“Flashpoint” - In this episode a doctor head of the research at a university is found dead in his office. The doctor was working on a clinical trial for a anti depressant being used with addicted teenagers. It is revealed in this episode that Brenda has an ethics inquiry on her when she worked in Atlanta. This time Fritz shows up and Brenda forgot about them planning to go to the movies. They agree to be just friends and then start to make out before they are interrupted by Sergeant Gabriels with the news that another files of another doctor running the trial had his files stolen. One of those on her team tries to continue the non acceptance of Brenda being the Deputy Chief by having the media publish an article about misconduct issues resurfacing against Brenda related to the Atlanta ethics thing. She ends up finding out that the other doctor staged the break in and killed the doctor because he found out that he had a relationship with one of the patients. It turns out the ethics issue in Atlanta was related to her ex-husband accusing her of having a sexual relationship with someone in the Atlanta precinct and charges were dropped because it was mostly a lie.

“Fantasy Date” - This episode begins with Brenda looking for a congresswoman at a special gala because of something about the congresswoman’s daughter. Her daughter was murdered and raped. She ends up acting like a disorganized assistant while interviewing the victim’s boyfriend. When Brenda returns to look at things at the crime scene a man ends up trying to rape her. It turns out that the man was responding a website ad from a woman asking for a rape sex situation to that address. Brenda calls Fritz after the incident and he ends up coming to her house and patches up the wound on her head and then Brenda gives him an awkward tour of the house and invites him to sleep over (on the couch!). After raiding the website’s host they find the person who tried to fulfill the fantasy as part of a pledge dare. He tells Brenda he did it in self defense because she was putting up a fight and almost killed him. It seems like the episode would end then, but instead it does not because it seems odd she fought back if she was the one who asked for the rape fantasy. It turns out someone else put the ad up. In the end Brenda makes plans to have breakfast with Fritz.

“You Are Here” - The episode starts with Fritz and Brenda making out in a car. Their making out is interrupted by Brenda getting a call about a dead judge in a park. The judge’s son, who is autistic, is also missing. The son ends up being found in the trunk of his father’s car when it is located at the airport. Brenda takes the foster custody of the kid to stall him from being handed over to his mother who will take him to Phoenix, as the kid is her only potential witness or suspect. The son helps lead to his father’s killer when Brenda figures out the numbers he was reciting related to the longitude and latitude of where the killer stopped the car after killing his dad.
