The Closer: The Complete Second Season Disc 2 Wrap Up
This week’s TV on DVD Season I am going through and doing wrap ups of is the four disc The Closer Season 2 set. I will be posting about one disc each day until this Thursday. This wrap up is of disc 2.

“Aftertaste” - This episode begins with a body found at a restaurant. The body is of a woman, who owned LA’s newest 5 star restaurant where she is found. A large bouquet of flowers with a bottle of wine arrives for Brenda at the office. They find out that Duton ate at the restaurant the night the woman was murdered and he was believed to have killed his girlfriend with a golf club years before. Brenda interviews Duton and he gives an alibi story about being with a food critic. Brenda brings in the food critic and gives word for word the same alibi, which makes Brenda suspicious. The food critic explains that they do not have all the knifes from the kitchen because chefs take their personal ones home after their shift. Brenda goes to see the woman’s husband, who is a chef, and asks to see his knifes, which he reluctantly allows. They discover that one of the husband’s knives is the murder weapon, however it does not match forensically and just suggests that the murderer was another cook. When Brenda calls Fritz to cancel dinner plans it is revealed that it is her brithday, hence the flowers. Flynn and Provenza is tailing the woman’s husband when he goes into a restaurant and holds a knife to the neck of another chef, as Provenza is arresting the husband the other chef tries to escape and they end up arresting both. Pope brings Brenda take out dinner while she works late on her birthday. He also gives her a gift. Provenza reads the card in Brenda’s flowers and finds out it is her 40th birthday. Brenda interrogates the chef the woman’s husband attacked and learns that his knives match those supposedly given to the woman and her husband by Duton on the restaurant’s opening night. They find out that her husband is the multi million dollar life insurance and when she goes to talk to the husband he is unaware that his wife slept with the chef he attacked and Duton. This leads Brenda to suspect the food critic because the woman probably slept with him to get a good review. In the end Brend’as co-workers give her a birthday cake.
“To Protect & To Serve” - The episode begins with Provenza being annoyed with Flynn being late for them to go to a Dodgers game. When Provenza opens his garage for them to take his car they find a woman dead in the garage. Provenza wants them to wait to call it in until after they go to the Dodgers game. Flynn takes some pictures with his phone and makes the deal that if Flynn’s car starts they go to the game and if it does not they do not. The car does not start and when they go back to Provenza’s garage the woman’s body is gone. They find out the body is found undressed and cut open and Provenza and Flynn decide to take the case saying they were sent by Brenda. Pope gets mad at Brenda for the case being taken and while she does not yet know why she covers for Provenza and Flynn. Brenda has her team help look at the original crime scene and work the case without ever letting it be known that the body was first scene at Provenza’s house. When they find out that the name of the woman, Provenza recognizes it as the woman that lived there before him and he has been getting her mail. Provenza does not want to complain to his landlord about the locks not being changed because his lease is up and he is afraid his rent will be raised, but Brenda uses her blackmailing like skills to get the landlord to accept the criticism and renew the lease at the current rate. They find out that the woman worked as a surrogate. Robbery Homicide Division brings in the victims boyfriend, who seems about to confess to finding the woman dead in Provenza’s garage, but Brenda stops him by letting him know he could ask for a lawyer. To keep Pope from finding out that the body was found at Provenza’s she says it is a federal case and then asks Fritz to help make it into an actual federal case. Brenda goes to see the adoptive parents of the baby the woman was the surrogate for four years ago. The parents were slightly annoyed that the woman had used drugs while carrying their child, but did not pursue a law suit. They bring in the man that set up the surrogate adoptions after he tries to evade arrest. The boyfriend is about to tell about where he found the woman and Provenza is about to resign, but then a bomb threat evacuation occurs called in by Flynn. Fritz then arrives and stretches the truth and arrests the boyfriend as a drug dealer with high connections. They discover the woman was getting ready to try to gain custody of the four year old she was a surrogate of, which leads them to the adoptive parents. The husband confesses to killing her because he did not want to lose his daughter. Brenda makes Provenza and Flynn get special gifts for everyone to make up for them putting their careers on the line to help get the case solved without the body being in Provenza’s garage coming out.
“Out of Focus” - Brenda and Pope go through a hotel where they end up at a crime scene that the hotel wants to remain as obscure as possible. It appears to be a suicide, but there is no note or much of anything else in the room. The male victim is a photographer that appears to have jumped from the hotel room, however, it is suspicious and his camera is missing. The photographer was a celebrity paparazzo type photographer and suggests he was killed because of his career. Brenda talks to the man’s ex-wife and wonders why the man was not found with his camera. The coroner finds that the man’s hand was broken before the fall. Using dummies they try different jumping and pushed situations to find out the man was most definitely murdered. Fritz receives a message on their home machine from a woman. They track down another photographer that is more of a stalker photographer of a celebrity that the dead photographer might have been trying to photograph. The celebrity’s lawyer comes to see Brenda to try and convince her to stop looking into his client. Tao finds the victims camera at a pawn shop with the night manager from the hotel having sold it. The night manager admits to having tipped off the photographer about the celebrity and selling the camera, but the memory card was already gone when he found it and the photographer already dead. He also leads them back to the celebrity and his body guards. Brenda brings in one of the body guards, who is tired of covering for the celebrity and declines having the lawyer present anymore. It turns out the photographer was getting photos of the celebrity having a homosexual relationship. Brenda obsesses about the woman that left a message for Fritz, but finally realizes that he is not close to the woman. This leads Brenda to think the photographer’s ex-wife heard about the photo op and confronted him at the hotel. She confesses to killing him when he rejected her again.
“Head Over Heels” - Brenda is at breakfast with Gabriel, who tells her that he is now dating Detective Daniels. As they are eating a man comes in and tells them about a head being in a dumpster. When Brenda goes to investigate she falls into the dumpster. She finds feet. Brenda tells Gabriels to keep the relationship with Daniels to himself. They have the other dumpsters in the area to try to find more pieces of the body. Sanchez recognizes the man as an actor in porn movies. They go to his address and meets the man’s wife and children. Fritz finds pregnancy tests in Brenda’s purse and she thinks she might be pregnant because she is late and she got sick at the crime scene. The wife does not think the body is her husband’s because it is HIV positive. She tells them that the man was tested for HIV monthly and his tests have been negative. The blood type does not match up with that of the body, but they still think it is him and just that he was having someone’s blood be tested monthly. They think that he might have been killed because of him keeping the HIV a secret and passing it on. Brenda has the industry shut down for two weeks to control the possible outbreak situation. Brenda admits to Pope that she might be pregnant. Provenza and Flynn find out that the testing center had the wrong photo id for the man, which is how he easily got away with another doing the tests for him. They find out that the man tried to get life insurance the week before and failed because of an HIV positive test, so they think he did not even know he had HIV. Brenda finally takse a pregnancy test and it comes back negative. The investigation leads them to the director of the movies and his mother, who runs the company. The mother tells them about how her son killed the actor. The son blames his mother for the actor getting HIV and covering up the incident.
